Down River and The Bluff''s Hackers
The Bluffs Happenins’
11-2 Rita and I returned to the sunny, warm, and humid weather in southwest Florida on Oct 31. Today was our first golf outing at the Bluffs and on a tragic note I have to report the passing of one of our players...Ron McCormick suffered a cardiac event collapsing in the parking lot. It was the first time I met Ron, and he seemed to be a great guy.
On a side note, we are using temp greens (due to reseeding) and are not playing snakes until the middle of the month.)
11-16 We played Arcadia Municipal (due to a tournament at The Bluffs) hence no data was collected.
11-19 Today was the first day we got to use The Bluff's greens...hence Ray won snakes. I will have to say that over all the course is in great shape. Season has not started yet so we had the course to ourselves (well almost..had to leave a twosome play through on #6).
12-3 This is the last entry for December as Rita and I well be returning to Bedford for the holiday season. Rita must redecorate house in PA for Christmas....and of course there are many parties that must be attended. Durning my absence, Mark Keck will be sending me the "numbers" for the rounds played so the spreadsheet is kept up to date. We will be returning to sunny before the end of the month.
12-14 We want to welcome back Tim Wood to sunny Florida and hope he has a great season. I would like to note that since I'm back in PA, there are no copies of the score cards...Mark is texting me the scores, CTPs, snakes etc so I can keep the spreadsheets up to date.
1-7-25 The new year has started with a brrrrrr....cold wave has hit SWF. Temps at tee time on Sat was 42 degrees and today, despite a noontime tee time, only reached 60!!! But it is still warmer than back home and things look better for Saturday. Eddie O has been joining us on Tuesdays and had a break out day coming in at +6 BUT Tim Wood also found his game with a +8 (and 2 CTPs and 0 snakes). You can check out all the results on the "Points and Winners" page.
There has been no beer drinkin' (or golfin' for that matter) since 1/18. Why you say?? Well it's
due to the funky Florida weather. We have seen some unbelievable weather in SWF...namely
cold and rain...in fact the course was closed on Tues and Wed due to wet and chilly conditions.
This morning (1/25), I look at the house across the street and there was FROST on their roof!
Things are looking up for Tues with highs predicted to be in the mid 70's with plenty of sunshine
Sounds like it will be a good day to get out of the house.

1-28 Well, SWF finally got some SWF weather and The Bluffs was packed...even had to wait for golf carts!! We had 11 players today including Eddie O's daughter and son in law (Jill and Erin) Despite the crowded conditions, we were able to play in under four hours and as usual the beer was flowing afterwards. It should be noted that the language at the beer table was toned down quite a bit but I think the "kids" had a good time. It should also noted that Ron Doren was not in the photo but did play (and played well) after returning from surgery on the veins in his leg.

2-22 Just wanted to post a short update from Florida. We had to endure an unseasonally cold Jan but only lost one day of golf due to the weather. Since then it has been great Florida weather but very dry and the course shows it....lots of bounce and roll and the greens are in great shape. We have had three guys from the "Michigan Hood" join us in Feb ... Larry Osier, Jim Doyle, and Glenn Brennan have joined the group. They have played their three rounds and acquired a number so they are in the money so to speak. Larry and Jim only make the trip to The Bluffs on Saturdays but Glenn plays both Tuesdays and Saturdays.
3-8 If you have noticed, there is no data on the spreadsheets for today. Due to a tournament at The Bluffs, we played the Arcadia Municipal Course. What a pleasant surprise...you could tell they have been watering everything...for the most part the tees, fairways, and greens were lush and green. The staff in the pro shop was fantastic...they kept up with us with plenty of beer and popcorn....the day was great even though the golf left a great deal to be desired. Just for the record, the winners were CTPs went to Jim(2), Doug (2), and Mark (1)....yes there were 5 par 3's. Doug won points (the only one on the + side of things) and Jim and Doug both had 0 snakes.
